Description
With all candles blazing, it has the power to turn any occasion into festivity.
Nunatak is not necssarily easy to put to use - a monumental solitaire that would like to have the whole table top to itself and thus needs careful pairing with other table top dwellers. The shape carries clear traces from the hands that made it.
Nunatak is a four-armed candelabra in cast iron designed by Anderssen & Voll.

Design Story
Designed by Anderssen & Voll
The process of making Nunatak was quite fast. The idea was developed in 2 sketches and in half an hour they expanded the sketched into a simple model in cardboard painted black.
They used the size, gesture and proportion of this mock-up directly to form a skeleton in perforated steel sheet. Then they sculpted clay onto the skeleton to form the final body of the piece. The clay body eventually got 3D-scanned at a studio in their neighborhood.
At the last stage they gave it an ever so slight digital retouch before the shape was translated into a 5 part aluminum mold ready for red hot liquid iron.

The Century Product
The core of Nedre Foss is the notion of the Century Product + what they refer to as Sculptural Utility or bruksskulptur, as they say in Norwegian. By this they mean objects that will serve you for at least 100 years, and where the sculptural qualities on one side and the utility aspect on the other, are equal parts of the function.
