Designers: Bill Stumpf & Jeff Weber, 2008

What if a chair could do more than just minimize the negative effects of sitting? Bill Stumpf and Jeff Weber designed the Embody Chair with that question in mind. The result set a new benchmark for ergonomic seating technology.

Designed specifically for people who sit at computers, Embody makes you feel like your floating. It promotes health-positive sitting, creating harmony between you and your computer to help you focus on your work and think more clearly.
Dimensions:
Total Height: 42-45"
Seat Height: 16-20.25"

Support Through Harmony
For superior comfort, Embody's Backfit adjustment and seat conform to your unique shape and distribute your weight evenly. Embody has no hard, rigid frames so edges flex and forgive when you make contact.

Embody's new tilt technology—designed especially to support the working recline posture—encourages you to move naturally, keeping your head aligned with your computer display, and your spine in a neutral posture with consistent support. Whether you lean forward or recline, your lower back support remains constant--no adjustments needed; users of all sizes can easily assume and maintain a reclined position. One chair size fits every body. Embody automatically adapts to the wide variation in people's size, shape, posture, and spinal curve; seat depth adjusts to different thigh lengths; armrest motions fit the broadest ranges.

The Feeling of Floating
Embody's Pixelated Support technology is in both the seat and chair back. It automatically conforms to your body's micro-movements, distributing your weight evenly. This improves blood flow, lowers resting heart rate, and eliminates discomfort and distractions. The feeling is as if you're floating in your chair.

Zoned Support
The Embody tilt provides three zones of support that introduce a new model of kinematics that stabilizes the pelvis and supports the upper back without pressure on the thighs. This technology supports the spine through a wide range of work postures.

A Purposeful Skin
The exoskeletal form of Embody was inspired by the human spine. Herman Miller collaborated with materials designer Susan Lyons to create new textiles specifically for Embody. Embody uses spacer and knit constructions, the kind used in sneakers and geo-textiles. They cushion the sitter, are breathable, translucent, and resilient. Every bit of material used is purposeful. Nothing is wasted or superfluous.

Embody Construction
This chair has a pixelated seat and back that is textile-covered on the chair's front side. This construction provides support and comfort by spontaneously conforming to the user's shape and postural movements, while simultaneously moving heat away from the body. The Instinctive Back design mimics the human spine, providing passive support to the sacral, lumbar, and thoracic regions of the user's back, while the frameless, narrow back shape allows freedom of movement through the arms, neck and shoulders. The seat depth adjusts from 15" to 18". The tilt supports the thoracic spine and stabilizes the pelvis through the deep, balanced recline. The tilt limiter allows the user to limit the amount of recline. The chair has a 5-star base. Arm choices include no arms or fully adjustable arms that adjust 6" vertically and 6" horizontally.
