Artist's Statement:
My love of weaving began in 1977. I had just begun my first professional job when a friend called and said, “Your first weaving class begins this Thursday night!” Soon after that, I bought my first loom and joined the Weavers Guild of Kalamazoo. I weave simple shapes of clothing that focus on the fabric as well as functional items for home use. While I enjoy designing and weaving patterns, I especially enjoy the challenge of mixing yarns of many colors and textures into one-of-a-kind fabrics.

The colors and textures of nature, especially those of autumn, have always inspired me. Sometimes I am able to create the piece I have in mind. Other times, the warp on my loom takes on a life of its own and becomes a very different fabric.

However a project develops, the creative process involved in weaving is a constant reminder to stay open to new ideas and to welcome surprises. While creating a piece that matches my original intent is deeply satisfying, those serendipitous pieces, the ones I didn’t plan, keep weaving forever new and exciting.
