HERMAN MILLER EAMES MOLDED PLYWOOD FOLDING SCREEN
HERMAN MILLER EAMES MOLDED PLYWOOD FOLDING SCREEN
Design: Ray and Charles Eames, 1946

Design Story

Charles and Ray Eames noted that U-shaped cross sections of plywood from their early molding experiments were stable enough to stand alone. To make their screen, they joined the sections with canvas hinges and a synthetic adhesive developed during World War II. Today, a polypropylene mesh held securely by a new process ensures a longer life without compromising the integrity of the 1946 design.

Product Info

The Eames Folding Screen is a "stand alone" home accessory which can be used to create standing or seated privacy and divisions within an environment. It features five-ply strength with the screen's lightweight maple inner plies sandwiched between light ash, walnut, natural cherry, or ebony veneers to resist warping and separation. There are six U-shaped sections with flexible connections. Each section is 10 inches long and durable, woven polypropylene mesh connects the six plywood sections so it's easy to adjust the footprint. The Eames Molded Plywood Screen folds for storage and is easy to carry and tucks neatly away.
