STEVE CULL: CONVERGENCE — July 16 - September 13, 2010 (Reception July 29, 6-8 pm)
A designer by trade, Steve Cull has worked in the graphic arts for the past 30 years. But, the call of his early passion for art and photography
would not be silenced.
His love for architecture, photography, interior design, and fashion, has become the embodiment of his original works of art. Convergence represents a collective display of
digital art that merges forms onto fabrics, canvas, metal and glass.
Steve credits being born in Chicago, and his frequent trips back to the city, with forming his range of reference – from the ethnic neighborhoods to the soaring architecture
and vast shoreline. He quotes architect and Pritzker laureate Robert Venturi, to sum up his own artistic style:
“I like elements that are hybrid rather than pure, compromising rather than clean, distorted rather than straight forward.”
Steve’s irreverence for the formal and intellectual conceptions of art led him to explore methods and effects that reflect a technological world. His taste for color and pattern,
and his refusal to compromise the “essential aesthetic element in design,” make his prints fresh, evocative, stimulating and sophisticated.
