RIVERTOWN ARTISTS GUILD: SPRINGING INTO SUMMER — May 25 - July 11, 2010
The Rivertown Artists Guild was established in 1990 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Guild brings together emerging and established
artists in a unique effort aimed at advancing all members. Design Quest is pleased to showcase the art of five Rivertown artists. The exhibit features
original paintings, photographs and torn paper collages.
ARTIST'S BIO
Don Upp - Don has studied fine art photography under internationally recognized artists such as Michael Kenna, John Sexton, George
Tice and Howard Bond. He has attended nature photographic workshops with Bill Thomas, Rod Plank and John Gerlach, and
has conducted local workshops and seminars on nature and fine art photography. Don has exhibited nationally, won awards
throughout Michigan, and has had work published in books and magazines.
Jan Upp - Over the years Jan has painted in most media and has had over 40 one person exhibits in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.
Besides exhibiting in Florida, England and Greece her work has been included in many juried exhibits around the country.
Primarily a watercolorist, who sometimes works in other watermedia, Jan often works in series. She has taught classes
and workshops in many locations, including a class at Grand Valley State University and privately in her studio.
Mary E. Andersen - A native of Traverse City, Michigan, Mary E. Andersen has resided and maintained a fine art
studio in Grand Rapids, Michigan since 1991. She is a graduate of Northwestern Michigan College (A.A. Liberal Arts, 1972),
John Wesley College (B.A. Fine Art, 1979), and Lansing Community College (A.A. Design, Illustration, 1990). Considered by
many to be an emerging American artist, Andersen's original paintings and drawings have been steadily acquired for
private and public collections across the United States and Europe over the past 25 years.
E. Lynn O'Rourke - Before Lynne became a full time artist, she taught art in the public schools and for 18 years
taught private art classes for children. She is a graduate of Grand Rapids Community College and Western Michigan
University, majoring in art. She has exhibited throughout west Michigan and has won awards wherever she has shown her
work.
